KMRT responds to record number of callouts

This week has seen KMRT respond to a record number of callouts within a single week. As of 15:00 on Friday 8 January 2010 the team has already responded to 19 incidents. For comparison the team usually manages 30-40 callouts per year. The team has been working round the clock to man our base in Hayfield and to crew our two landrovers responding to incidents throughout Greater Manchester and Derbyshire. Over 40 team members have been involved to ensure that we reach those people most in need despite the snow and ice.

Kinder Mountain Rescue Team together with our colleagues from surrounding Peak District teams are continuing to work with the ambulance services through the cold weather.

North West Ambulance Service continues to urge people to stay indoors unless absolutely necessary as the severe weather conditions continue to be experienced across the region.
Director of Emergency Services, Derek Cartwright said: “Although we are no longer operating at major incident status, access throughout Greater Manchester and to Liverpool City Centre in particular remains difficult and we are continuing to work with Mountain Rescue Services to enable us to get to those in need.
“All non-emergency journeys into hospitals across the region have been cancelled for the next 48 hours. Patients will hear from local PCTs about the rescheduling of appointments.
“Our advice to the public is to take care and only to call 999 for life-threatening incidents, for minor injuries and ailments contact NHS Direct in the first instance on 0845 46 47, through the red interactive button on digital TV or www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk”
