19 – CALLOUT, Sunday 5th June 2011

  • Type – Search
  • Location – Bleaklow
  • Team Members – 13
  • Duration – 5 hours 30mins (71.5 man hours)

Just when I thought I’d gotten away with holding one of the follow-me numbers without incident. I received a call just before midnight (4th June) with notification of a possible search on Bleaklow.

We were called to assist Glossop MRT locate a missing Mountain Biker, somewhere on Southern approaches to Bleaklow. Initial thoughts were that this would be a fairly quick operation. As the night wore on and the weather deteriorated, concern was growing for the missing mountain bikers well being.

SARDA & Woodhead teams were now called to assist with covering the northern part of Bleaklow. Whilst deploying the first search dog, the handler (also Oldham MRT’s Team Leader) called his own team out to assist with numbers.  Eventually one of the search dog teams located the missing mountain biker in the Torside Castle area and they were able to safely walk the casualty back to waiting vehicles.

KMRT members returned to base and ran through the usual post-callout re-packing and kit checking, with Base finally being locked up again at 5:45am.
